Control, Alt, Delete!
These 3 words can change an entire day, week, year…life!
Over the last few months, my computer has been huffing, puffing, and spinning its wheels, and often looks like a deer in headlights when I just need it to respond.
So I finally stopped walking through quicksand and hit Control-Alt-Delete to analyze the issue.
Upon going behind the secret door to my computer, I got a first-hand glimpse of my operating system, processes, systems, loads, and memory.
There I found the bug, cancer, the wildfire that was slowing down the functionality and memory of my entire machine…
McAfee!
This well-intended program meant to protect me from the evil hackers of this world is actually breaking me, breaking my computer, and breaking my patience with life.
Security vs. Freedom
This issue is so symbolic of the human condition. How many of us are running a very complex operating system with overloaded schedules, endless activities, and cluttered homes?
We are running at reckless speeds. Because of the lack of margin in our calendars, we are caught like deer in headlights when something out of the ordinary happens.
Life happens every day and we are too busy to think, spinning our wheels reacting, and burned out…just like our computers.
McAfee is representative of societal norms and expectations. Our work infiltrates our mobile devices, our communication systems after hours, and our minds when we try to sleep.
Instead of protecting us from our many fears of losing the comfort of the paycheck, they become the pains of our humanity, slowly removing us from the matters of life that can be joyful, refueling, and purposeful.
I uninstalled McAfee without hesitation. I wanted freedom, not security. I also left corporate for the same reason.
Don’t get me wrong, security software and the 9-5 are not completely bad. It all becomes cumbersome when these solutions disregard human values and boundaries and then become a load on the entire operating system of life.
Give me security software that lets me be free, then I just may invest again!
Many are seeking an overhaul of how society works. Unfortunately, it’s rare to find security and freedom simultaneously.
When to Seek Freedom
Breaking free of the “securities” of our society isn’t for everyone. Our world works in the harmony of great and often challenged institutions that employ brilliant, gifted, and talented individuals who are changing the world one innovation at a time.
However, there does come a time for some of us that need a change of pace, less security in what software and man can provide, and more solutions in what God has given us…purpose, families, and individual assignments. The right to be more purposeful, impactful, and intentional.
Uninstalling McAffee was easy and my computer is now smiling.
Uninstalling corporate can also be easy, but needs to be strategic and thoughtful.
Write down your goals, your interests, and your talents. Do these inner exercises with your spouse and network of close friends. Start networking and exploring the opportunities that excite you. Have conversations with your family and create a dreaming big plan together and start saving up for the transition.
If leaping into entrepreneurship is not for you, you can still use the Control-Alt-Delete system to unload unnecessary and overwhelming tasks from your operating system. Choose a day in the week, block the time on your calendar, and perform a full lifestyle audit of all the activities. You may even want to try out the MANDATE to be Less Busy model to fully reboot how you operate.
And if a full day is just too much to consider right now, block 15 minutes to jot down a list of everything that drains you and the items that charge you.
Taking action doesn’t have to be hard! Put Control Alt Delete to action in your life right away.
Control your actions!
Alter your current path if it’s not working for you or your family.
Delete anything that is holding you back from your dream and your purpose.
Most importantly, seek God’s purpose and will for your life.
